Summary

The Atari Lynx version of Double Dragon brings the legendary arcade beat‑'em‑up to a handheld platform. Developed by Knight Technologies and released by Telegames in 1993, the port retains the series’ hallmark two‑player co‑op mode, allowing friends to trade punches in the pocket. Despite the Lynx’s modest screen, the game still showcases the original’s cutscene sequences and the ability to snatch enemies’ weapons, preserving the cinematic flare that made the arcade hit a cultural landmark. It captures the spirit of the 1987 original, which had defined the genre and dominated arcades in both Japan and the United States. The Lynx edition proved that even on a portable system, Double Dragon’s fast‑paced action and cooperative fun could thrive, cementing its status as a standout handheld beat‑'em‑up of the early ’90s.

Storyline

Double Dragon on the Atari Lynx drops you into the shoes of martial‑artist Billy Lee or his twin brother Jimmy—who appear as Hammer and Spike in the American arcade supplemental material. The brothers battle through the Black Warriors’ turf to rescue Billy’s girlfriend, Marian. The fourth and final stage shifts to the gang’s hideout, presented on a separate map filled with traps that must be cleared before reaching the main hall. There, the player confronts the gang leader Willy in a climactic showdown. If a single player defeats Willy, the game ends, but when both brothers finish together they are forced to turn on each other to win Marian’s affection.
