Summary
Checkered Flag drops you behind the wheel of an open‑wheel racer—think Formula 1 or Indy—on any of the 18 American‑styled circuits that range from countryside roads to city streets. Before the green light you can pick the car’s colour, the driver’s gender (purely cosmetic), and whether you want an automatic, 4‑speed or 7‑speed manual gearbox, then set the race length from a single lap up to fifty. The game’s view mimics classic Pole Position: a behind‑the‑car perspective with a scrolling backdrop, scaling sprites for other cars and roadside obstacles, plus a speedometer, lap timer and rear‑view mirrors that stay on screen.
You can start from a random grid or earn a pole position with a qualifying lap, and you’ll need to steer around trees, rocks, bushes or even wandering animals that will slam you to a halt. Colliding with another racer spins both vehicles out, costing precious speed, while braking and accelerating are handled by two dedicated buttons and the D‑pad also lets you shift gears manually if you chose that route.
Up to six friends can link their Lynxes via ComLynx for a true handheld showdown, with any empty slots filled by AI drivers for a maximum field of ten cars. When you cross the finish line, the winner is greeted with a cheeky victory screen—either a swimsuit‑clad kiss or a muscle‑bound pose, depending on the gender you selected—adding a quirky, personal touch to each triumph.
