When the Atari Jaguar got its own version of Doom in late 1994, it wasn’t just a straight remake—id Software actually rebuilt the engine on a NEXTSTEP platform before cross‑compiling it for Jaguar’s strange architecture. Storyline

Doom for the Atari Jaguar follows the classic three‑episode structure – Knee‑Deep in the Dead, The Shores of Hell, and Inferno – each with eight main levels. A fourth episode, Thy Flesh Consumed, appears in the later Ultimate Doom expansion but isn’t part of the original cartridge. The plot is minimal, delivered mostly through the manual and brief text screens between episodes.

An unnamed marine is reassigned to a dead‑end post on Mars after defying an order to fire on civilians. The Union Aerospace Corporation’s secret teleport experiments go awry, and the moons Phobos and Deimos become overrun with demonic forces. Armed only with a pistol, the marine fights his way through the ruined bases, defeating Barons of Hell, a Cyberdemon, and a spider‑demon that orchestrated the invasion.

By the end of Inferno the marine opens a portal back to Earth, only to discover the planet itself has been invaded, setting the stage for the sequel.
