Summary

BattleSphere Gold is the polished follow‑up to the original Jaguar space‑combat title, arriving on March 15, 2002 with a fresh visual overhaul and a suite of bug‑fixes that finally let the game run smoothly on the aging hardware. The upgrade isn’t just cosmetic; it tightens compatibility across the console’s quirks, making the experience feel less like a hobbyist demo and more like a proper release. A year later the unofficial ScatBox peripheral hit the scene, and BattleSphere Gold was one of the first Jaguar games to take advantage of its LAN capabilities, letting three or more consoles link up for multiplayer dogfights. Production was truly limited – only a few hundred copies of the Gold edition ever left the factory, a rarity amplified by the scarcity of Jaguar components that already made the 2000 original hard to find. For anyone hunting retro space shooters, the Gold version stands out as a surprisingly robust, community‑driven gem.

Storyline

Battle Sphere Gold (often just called Battle Sphere) is set amid a future war involving seven alien races. Their leaders have sealed all combat to a single, enclosed sector of space that was once a testing ground for weapons and starships. Within this confined arena, each race fields its elite soldiers and cutting‑edge military technology. The competitors enter a high‑stakes tournament, battling for the ultimate prize: control of the galaxy.
