Summary

Summer Games landed on the Atari 7800 as part of Epyx’s ambitious “Games” series, bringing the virtual Olympic feel to a console that mostly hosted action titles. The cartridge lets up to eight friends pick a country and take turns in events like pole vault, platform diving, sprinting, gymnastics, freestyle swimming and skeet shooting, with a simple 5‑3‑1 point system rewarding gold, silver and bronze. What really set it apart was the competitive multiplayer mode – a rare treat on a system where single‑player shooters dominated. Unfortunately, reviewers on Atari 7800 Forever gave it a lukewarm 2 out of 5, calling the events boring compared to the more polished versions on home computers. Still, the game’s legacy lives on as the spark that ignited a whole line of Epyx sports classics.
