Summary

RealSports Baseball, often called Super Baseball, lets you step up to a virtual diamond for a quick‑play baseball showdown. You can go solo against the computer or face a friend, and the game gives you the classic options: bunting, trying for a homer, stealing bases, and choosing from fastballs to curveballs.

The title includes several rule‑sets – you decide whether the home or visiting side bats first, and you can set the batter to swing only at strikes or at any pitch. The joystick doubles as a swing selector, letting you aim for a grounder, a fly‑ball, or a power hit with a simple flick.

When Atari moved the game from the 2600 to the 5200 and then the 7800, they added a full diamond, fielders who can throw to tag runners, and more realistic fly‑ball physics. Ironically, the 7800 version trims the graphics and sound compared to the 5200 and suffers from a few bugs, making it feel a step back despite the newer hardware.

The original TV spots even featured Oakland A’s manager Billy Martin, and the rights have bounced from Atari to Hasbro Interactive, then to Infogrames (now Atari SA). The 2600 edition resurfaced in the 2005 Atari Anthology and on modern Flashback consoles, keeping the nostalgic charm alive for new players.
