Summary

Planet Smashers lands on the Atari 7800 as a surprisingly original 2D shooter, letting you pilot a plane‑shaped ship against a relentless alien armada. The game sprinkles in handy tricks like level‑warp codes, laser upgrades and even a cloaking device, which keep the action feeling fresh as you fend off waves of ships and stray asteroids threatening Earth’s shield. Boss encounters are oddly memorable, each demanding a different tactic despite the ship’s quirky silhouette. Audio-wise the sound effects are bold, though the main laser’s buzz can become mind‑numbingly irritating after a few minutes of play. After finally destroying the alien mothership, the ending flashes a puzzling message urging you to try Alien Brigade, a cheeky nod that feels both rewarding and oddly out of place.
