Summary

Pete Rose Baseball lets you feel the crack of the bat and the rush of making split‑second decisions about which fielder should make the play. I can pick from a roster of classic Major League pitches – fast balls, curves, change‑ups, screwballs and sinkers – and even hear rumors of a hidden spitball option. The game supports head‑to‑head matches with friends or a solo showdown against the computer, all wrapped in TV‑style coverage with six camera angles that keep you glued to the action.

What really sets it apart is the perspective: a behind‑the‑pitcher view for pitching and batting, plus a series of bird’s‑eye shots that switch between two infield angles and three outfield angles (left, center, right) depending on where the ball lands. The stadium feels alive, complete with a cheering crowd and an organist that adds that authentic ball‑park vibe.

When Activision later bundled the title into the Activision Anthology, the Pete Rose license had expired, so the game was simply renamed Baseball. Today you can still play the Atari 7800 version for free in a browser via the Internet Archive.
