Summary

Meltdown turns the Atari 7800 into a frantic nuclear‑defense range, letting you wield the XG‑1 light gun to guard twenty reactor cores from relentless sparkx. The game’s tension builds as each missed shot spawns a temporary barrier, and up to four of these can crowd the screen, forcing the sparkx to ricochet and change their attack patterns. Power crystals and bonus blocks pop up now and then, offering a brief boost if you can snag them amid the chaos. As you survive each round, the playfield shrinks, tightening the shooting zone and demanding ever‑faster reflexes. When a reactor holds out, you receive a password to pick up later, or you can simply blast straight into the next core, while the ultimate goal remains clear: keep the control rods intact long enough to save all twenty reactors.

Storyline

Meltdown, the Atari 7800 shooter, drops you into a tense world where international terrorists have threatened global annihilation. The villains have unleashed a weapon called “sparkx” that attacks the control rods of twenty nuclear reactors, forcing each one toward a catastrophic melt‑down.

You play as an unnamed hero tasked with entering each reactor and destroying the sparkx before the reactors explode, thereby saving the world.
