Summary
Fatal Run turns a desolate future into a non‑stop shoot‑‘em‑up highway, letting you blaze down the road while firing at every vehicle in sight. The game’s simple two‑button scheme keeps the focus on quick reflexes, and a variety of power‑ups—oil slicks, nitro boosts, and the odd “death crystal”—spice the chaos. Each of the 32 stages ends with a password, so you can pick up where you left off and cash in the money you’ve earned for repairs and upgrades. Developed for the 7800, the cartridge holds a whopping 32 KB of data, making it the biggest Atari 2600‑era title ever pressed, even though it only saw a European release on that older system. Reviewers praised the save‑system and cut‑scenes, but the graphics, clunky controls and repetitive action kept the excitement from reaching its full potential.
Storyline
Fatal Run drops you into a bleak, post‑apocalyptic wasteland where time is literally ticking. You pilot a rugged vehicle loaded with an anti‑radiation vaccine that must reach scattered survivor colonies.
Each stretch ends with a crowd of onlookers waiting for the cure; if you linger too long they explode in a gruesome flash. The game’s relentless pace forces you to balance speed with dodging obstacles, making every second count.
