Summary

When I first saw the Atari 7800 version of Donkey Kong, I was surprised to learn it was a home‑grown effort. Unlike many ports that were outsourced, this one was built in‑house by Atari Corporation, the same company that created the console itself. The team managed to squeeze the classic arcade feel into the 7800’s hardware, preserving the iconic barrels and ladders while adding a few visual tweaks. It feels like a little piece of Atari history tucked into a cartridge.

Storyline

In Donkey Kong for the Atari 7800, the giant ape kidnaps the beautiful Lady and drags her to a treacherous construction site. Mario must scale the scaffolding and platforms, climbing to the very top to rescue her from the clutches of the ape.
