Summary

Alien Brigade delivers a fast‑paced, side‑scrolling shooter experience that feels like a light‑gun version of Operation Wolf. The action is presented from a first‑person perspective, scrolling horizontally in both directions as waves of alien creatures, possessed troops and hostile vehicles charge the screen. Players can tackle the chaos with the standard 7800 joystick or the XG‑1 light gun, one of only five titles that support the peripheral, and choose from four difficulty settings. Throughout the five stages, shooting enemies sometimes drops bonuses that refill ammo, upgrade firepower or restore health, while taking hits slowly drains your life bar until it’s gone. Atari pushed the title harder than most late‑life 7800 releases, even cross‑promoting it in the shooter Planet Smashers, where a brief ad for Alien Brigade appears.

Storyline

In Alien Brigade, a Plutoid alien zombie force has infiltrated the army, disguising themselves as soldiers while actually being extraterrestrials. You command a special task force whose job is to hunt down and destroy these alien impostors. Along the way you can rescue hostages, collect powerful weapons, and fight to stay alive. Fail, and you risk becoming one of the alien‑controlled troops yourself.

The campaign begins with a rescue mission at an enemy camp, then moves to a waterfront battle, an underwater melee, a showdown in an underground mine, and finally a mountaintop showdown. Each stage pits you against alien‑possessed soldiers who have taken over the bodies of fallen troops.

Between levels a commanding officer briefs you on the situation and later rates your performance.
