Summary
Alien Brigade drops you into a frantic, rail‑shooter arcade feel that nods to Operation Wolf while adding its own sci‑fi twist. Using the 7800 joystick or the Atari XG‑1 light gun, you sprint across five horizontally scrolling stages, blasting waves of alien‑possessed soldiers, hovering tanks and insect‑like crafts.
Every pass is a balancing act: each level hands you a concrete mission—rescue trapped civilians, take out alien command modules, or protect the supply route—while stray shots can cost you dearly, as innocent by‑standers trigger a health drain. Occasionally a falling bonus grants extra ammo, a sturdier weapon, or a health boost, rewarding quick, accurate fire.
Briefings delivered by a stern commanding officer between missions add pseudo‑military flair and even rate your performance, giving the game an old‑school arcade leaderboard vibe. Despite arriving late in the 7800’s lifecycle, Atari backed it with heavier advertising than most late‑era titles, even cross‑promoting it with the contemporary shooter Planet Smashers.
Storyline
In Alien Brigade you lead a special task force against the Plutoid Alien Zombie force that has slipped into the Army, masquerading as soldiers. These extraterrestrials hijack the bodies of fallen troops, turning them into hostile units you must eliminate.
The game kicks off with a rescue mission to free hostages from an enemy camp, then pushes you through a waterfront skirmish, an underwater melee, a dark underground mine, and finally a mountaintop showdown. Between each stage the commanding officer briefs you, offers tactical advice and even rates your performance.
As you blast through waves, you can collect powerful weapons and keep your squad alive—because if you fail, you’ll end up joining the alien ranks yourself.
