Summary

Joust on the Atari 5200 drops you onto a sky‑filled arena where you pilot a lance‑wielding knight perched on a flying ostrich – or a stork if you’re Player 2. The core trick is to flap your mount’s wings and gain a higher altitude than the enemy, because only a higher jousting point lets you knock the rival’s vulture‑ridden knight out of the sky.

When you land a hit, the defeated rider drops an egg onto one of the lower platforms. Those eggs must be smashed before they hatch, otherwise they release fresh, tougher knights that keep the battle escalating.

The game distinguishes three enemy classes: the red Bounder, the white Hunter, and the blue Shadow Lord, each with its own speed and aggression pattern.

Adding to the chaos are crumbling platforms, lava‑spitting trolls that try to drag you into fire, and a dreaded pterodactyl that seems almost unbeatable.

Storyline

Joust on the Atari 5200 drops players into a whimsical aerial arena where heroic knights mount flying ostriches—or sometimes storks—to take to the skies. Opposing them are evil knights astride carrion‑eating vultures, and the two sides clash both aloft and on floating platforms, all while racing to stop the enemy’s eggs from hatching.
