Summary

Frogger II: ThreeeDeep! expands the classic hop‑across‑traffic formula into a three‑screen adventure. You start underwater, dodging snapping alligators and darting fish, and can hop onto a turtle for a brief safe ride as you climb toward the pond’s surface. The second screen swaps water for sky‑high obstacles: logs, soaring birds and even a passing whale become stepping stones toward a life preserver trailing a tugboat. The final stage pushes you onto a flock of birds, where the goal is to leap onto a cloud at the very top before the timer runs out. Each screen has its own set of homes, and only when every berth on all three screens is filled does the level advance. Critics of the era praised the sequel’s ambition: Electronic Games’ Louise Kohl called it “exciting” and “appealing and challenging,” while Ted Salamone noted the Atari 2600 version looked “state of the art” despite occasional flicker. The game’s layered design made the original feel like “kid stuff,” according to Computer Games.
