Summary

I love the way Final Legacy makes you feel like a commander juggling multiple tasks with a single joystick. In command mode you pick your next action by pushing the stick up, down, left or right – navigation, torpedo, sea‑to‑air or sea‑to‑land – and the whole experience hinges on that simple four‑direction scheme.

Navigation drops you onto an overhead world map where a black dot inside a circle marks your ship and its effective range. Fuel is only spent while you’re moving the circle, and you can glide over cities to refuel or hover near enemy vessels and missile bases to line up a strike.

Switch to torpedo mode when an enemy is in range; a bottom‑screen scanner helps you line up the shot while you dodge the fire of warships, hunter ships and the weaker intelligence craft. Destroying an intelligence ship can expose hidden missile bases with a high chance.

Sea‑to‑land lets you dock at cities for fuel or bomb missile launchers, and sea‑to‑air puts you in control of a satellite to blast incoming missiles. The Atari 5200 version never saw an official release, but its gameplay mirrors the Atari 8‑bit edition almost perfectly.

Storyline

Final Legacy drops you into a three‑front battle as the captain of the starship Legacy. Your primary mission is to destroy the Warmongers’ missile bases, while simultaneously defending your home cities from their attacks.
