Shooter
In Dig Dug I’m tasked with clearing a maze of underground monsters by either inflating them until they burst or by crushing them with falling rocks. The two foes are the round, red‑goggled Pookas—often likened to tomatoes—and the green, fire‑breathing dragons called Fygars. Both will chase me through the tunnels I dig, and a single touch, a burst of fire, or a crushing rock will end my run.
Every tunnel I carve earns ten points, so I often dig as much as I can when the threat level is low. A partially inflated enemy will deflate after a few seconds, giving me a brief window to slip by. Dropping a rock on a monster is especially lucrative: the first rock‑kill nets 1,000 points, the next two add 1,500 each, and any further kills jump to 2,000.
When two rocks have been tossed, bonus items—fruits, vegetables, even a Galaxian flagship—materialize in the centre of the screen. Grabbing them before they vanish can yield up to 8,000 points for a pineapple, and they appear regardless of whether the rocks actually hit anything. The last enemy on each level tries to flee toward the top‑left corner, adding a final dash of tension to the underground showdown.
