Summary
X‑Men is an arcade beat‑em‑up that let up to six friends slug it out together – a rarity even today. The cabinet even spanned two adjacent screens, giving the action a double‑wide canvas that made every mutant blast feel massive. You control your favorite X‑Man with a joystick and three buttons (attack, jump, and a health‑costing mutant power), while health packs and power‑ups litter the stages. Each hero sports a distinct ability, letting the team mix powers strategically. When it rolled out, the game quickly cracked the top‑five highest‑grossing dedicated arcade titles of 1992 in the U.S. and snagged an AMOA nod for groundbreaking tech. The six‑player setup, combined with its expansive display and flashy powers, kept arcade crowds flocking long after the lights dimmed.
Storyline
In the classic arcade title X‑Men, players pick from six mutant heroes—Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler or Dazzler—to halt Magneto’s plan to devastate humanity. The roster gives each character distinct abilities, letting you blast, charge or fly through waves of foes.
Along the way you face relentless Sentinels, mutant crocodiles, the cyber‑enhanced Reavers, and a parade of iconic villains such as Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, the White Queen, Juggernaut, the Living Monolith and Mystique. Each enemy forces you to adapt tactics as the screen scrolls faster toward the next showdown.
When Magneto kidnaps Professor X and Kitty Pryde, the X‑Men are thrust into a rescue mission that threads through the treacherous Island M. The final confrontation erupts on Magneto’s Asteroid M base, where the chosen hero must defeat the Master of Magnetism and save their friends.
