Summary

USAAF Mustang thrusts you into a classic side‑scrolling shoot‑‘em‑up where you pilot a North American P‑51 Mustang over both European skies and the Pacific. The arcade version loops through eight relentless stages, each packed with swarms of Nazi Luftwaffe fighters, Imperial Japanese Navy planes and ground targets, ending in oversized aircraft bosses. Your only forward gun is a Vulcan that can be upgraded three times, widening the blast, while a limitless bomb called “The Forcer” sends a big fireball straight ahead and even speeds up as the Vulcan improves. Two‑player coop is supported, so I could team up and clear waves together. A year after the arcade debut, Taito and NMK released a Sega Mega Drive port under the name Fire Mustang, keeping the same hard‑core feel for home gamers.

Storyline

US AAF Mustang (often just called Mustang) drops you into a fictional World War II campaign as a United States Army Air Forces pilot behind the controls of a P‑51 Mustang. Each mission takes you across Europe and the Pacific, where you clash with the Nazi Luftwaffe and the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. The stages blend dogfights against swarms of enemy fighters with low‑level runs over ground targets, keeping the action fast‑paced. At the end of every level a massive aircraft boss appears, forcing you to dodge heavy fire and land the final blow. The game’s narrative is simple but effective, framing each sortie as a daring strike against the Axis powers.
