Summary

The King of Fighters 2000 (often just KOF ’00) took the Striker gimmick from ’99 and turned it into an "Active Striker System" – you can call in your helper in the middle of an attack or even while you’re taking damage, letting you thread assist moves into combos like never before. The roster expands with fresh faces – the ice‑wielder Kula Diamond, the street‑wise Ramon, the cyber‑shooter Vanessa, and the mysterious Seth – while beloved veterans return as regular, Another or Maniac Strikers, giving you extra strategic depth.

What makes ’00 especially interesting to fans is its behind‑the‑scenes drama: it was the last KOF title SNK managed before filing for bankruptcy, meaning the development team slipped away and the arcade build shipped with a handful of glitches, odd animations, and balance quirks that still charm collectors today. The Ikari Warriors‑sponsored tournament narrative hides a deeper hunt for the NESTS cartel, pitting new antagonists like Zero and a conditional mid‑boss Kula Diamond against the player.

Overall, KOF 2000 feels like a love letter to combo‑hunters, blending wild striker combos, a broadened cast, and the gritty realism of a company on its last legs.

Storyline

After the incident at the previous tournament, Heidern, commander of the Ikari Warriors Team, becomes obsessed with uncovering the NESTS cartel’s true goal. His old friend Ling tells him that former NESTS operatives K′ and Maxima might hold the key to the organization’s location, so Heidern decides to use the next King of Fighters 2000 tournament as a trap.

Depending on the player’s performance, the NESTS agent Kula Diamond can appear as an opponent. Near the finale, Ling and his allies betray Heidern, revealing that the Ling he’s been working with is actually a clone created by Zero, a high‑ranking NESTS member who wants to destroy his own syndicate.

Zero activates the space‑based "Zero Cannon," firing a massive energy blast that devastates South Town. After a hard‑fought battle, the cannon is destroyed—either by Heidern’s team or by Kula’s group, depending on the route taken.
