Summary

Survival Arts drops you into an arcade fighting stage that feels ripped from early‑90s blood‑splattered movies. The fighters are digitized actors, so every punch, kick and weapon swing looks startlingly realistic, and the game leans heavily on the gore‑laden finishers popularised by Mortal Kombat. In each match you can snatch swords, guns or other objects that suddenly appear on the floor and use them to press the advantage, a twist that feels like a gritty merger of Street Fighter II’s combo depth with improvised violence.

Eight warriors representing different countries each carry a fragment of the mysterious Survival Arts, an elusive martial style whose origin remains unrevealed within the tournament. When a round ends with the final hit, the loser may be burned, sliced, decapitated or electrocuted, echoing the brutal death animations of Barbarian. The game’s arcade run earned it the #58 spot on Play Meter’s popularity list, yet promised Super NES and Genesis ports were quietly shelved before reaching shelves.

Storyline

The arcade fighter Survival Arts (often just called Survival Arts) centers on a mysterious birthplace where the powerful physical martial art known as the Survival Arts originated. Over time, eight warriors from various countries have each uncovered key techniques of the discipline, constantly expanding their knowledge. These fighters enter the Survival Arts tournament, a showdown designed to crown the ultimate survivor and reveal all the hidden secrets of the art. While the tournament pits the eight seasoned combatants against each other, a ninth character—an enigmatic challenger—adds an extra twist to the competition. The story unfolds as each participant strives to master the elusive techniques and claim the title of the true master of Survival Arts.
