Summary
Super Xevious keeps the classic vertical‑scroll feel of its predecessor while dialing up the difficulty. I love how the Solvalou’s twin weapons — the forward‑firing zapper for air foes and the bomb for ground targets — still feel razor‑sharp, but now they’re tested against silver‑plated Galaxian flagships, a rare “scorpion” Galaga ship, agile jet planes, a helicopter and a dark‑yellow tank battalion. Some of these newcomers will actually wipe your score to zero if you manage to destroy them, turning a triumphant kill into a risky gamble. Hidden Sol Citadel towers are revealed by dropping bombs in the right spots, and yellow Rally‑X flags surface for precious extra lives. The game even pits you against a towering Andor Genesis, which you can beat by blasting its core or four blaster receptacles. Since its 1984 arcade debut as a conversion kit, Super Xevious has resurfaced on the X68000, PlayStation, Antstream Arcade and, most recently, the Switch and PS4 via the Arcade Archives line, keeping its fierce challenge alive for new pilots.
Storyline
In Super Xevious, you pilot the sleek starship Solvalou on a daring assault against the rogue supercomputer GAMP. The mission tasks you with wiping out GAMP’s relentless Xevious forces that threaten the galaxy. As you soar through scrolling skies, each wave of enemy formations brings you closer to the core of the AI’s stronghold. The ultimate goal is to breach the defenses and destroy GAMP once and for all, securing peace for humanity.
