Summary
Space Firebird drops you into a star‑strewn arena that feels like a nostalgic twist on the slide‑and‑shoot formula popularized by Galaga. Small, comet‑like spheres drift across the screen, then morph into soaring bird‑themed beasts that launch complex looping attacks. There are three enemy families: the flimsy Gulls that vanish with a single hit, the harder‑targeting Eagles that require two shots and deploy exploding bombs, and the towering Emperor demanding four blows to fall. If an Eagle’s bomb lands, its shrapnel rains down, but slicing it from directly underneath neutralises the threat before it detonates.
The ship’s warp function, usable once per level, fires the craft forward into a shimmering shield that deflects fire and lets you barre‑line the enemy flock without harm. Completing a wave flawlessly nets a 1,000‑point bonus and the flashing "Perfect!" acknowledgment, urging you to master each formation. Though born from Nintendo’s R&D1, the North‑American cabinets often bore the Sega‑Gremlin and Far East Video labels, offering the same fierce avian battles to players across the continent.
