Summary
Solvalou drops you into a sit‑down cockpit that feels more like a flight‑sim than an arcade cabinet. Running on Namco’s System 21 hardware, the machine boasts smooth 3D scrolling that was lauded as hyper‑entertainment when the game debuted. You pilot the titular Solvalou starship, toggling an air zapper for soaring foes and a blaster bomb that can unleash up to five ground‑targeting charges at once. While the ship follows a set flight path, you can drift left and right to dodge projectiles, keeping an onscreen shield meter from draining to zero. Each of the six increasingly tough zones ends with a score screen and often a boss mothership such as the Andor Genesis. Critics praised its realistic rendering and intense sense of speed, even though it never caught on commercially in the West. For fans of early 3‑D shooters, Solvalou remains a standout showcase of what arcade hardware could achieve.
Storyline
Solvalou (often just called Solvalou) thrusts you into the year 2015, where humanity is locked in a desperate war against the android collective known as GAMP. The conflict escalates as GAMP’s mothership threatens to eradicate the remaining human colonies. In response, Earth’s forces deploy the Solvalou starship, a sleek combat vessel designed to pierce enemy lines. Your mission is to pilot this ship deep into enemy space, taking down GAMP’s forces and ultimately destroying the mothership before it can wipe out humanity. The game’s fast‑paced action mirrors the urgency of the final showdown.
