Summary
Robo Army bursts onto the Neo Geo arcade scene in 1991 as a classic side‑scroll beat ’em up. The title pits the cyborg duo Maxima and Rocky against a futuristic crime syndicate, letting one or two players trash enemies with punches, kicks and an arsenal of makeshift weapons like car carcasses and robotic arms.
What sets the game apart is its power gauge: filling it lets the heroes unleash charged attacks, and for a few moments they can morph into an invulnerable armored vehicle. Six stages each host a sub‑boss and a boss, demanding both timing and brute force.
Critical response was mixed but generally solid—GamePro gave it 20/25 and the Neo Geo AES earned an 84/100 from AllGame. In Japan the arcade ranked 23rd on Game Machine’s December 1991 table list, and hobby magazine HobbyConsolas later called it one of the twenty best Neo Geo CD titles.
