Summary
Riot City thrusts you into the chaotic streets of Riot Island, a decaying slum packed with apartments, hospitals, factories and even a grimy casino. You play as narcotics agents Paul—blond, well‑rounded—and Bobby—slow but surprisingly sturdy, the kind of break‑dancer who can mop up hordes of goons. The side‑scrolling beat‑’em‑up plays out much like Final Fight, demanding you clear every screen before it scrolls, and the only loot you gather is points, not weapons.
The story kicks in when MID, a drug syndicate, threatens to erase the island’s few inhabitants. A desperate call from Paul’s girlfriend Catherine—cut off mid‑scream—sends the duo scrambling onto the island to rescue her and shut down the operation. Each level crescendos with a tougher boss, pushing both reflexes and teamwork. The atmospheric soundtrack, composed by Jin Watanabe and Shinichi Sakamoto and issued in 2009, still amps up the tension whenever you punch through another gang‑filled corridor.
Storyline
In Riot City, narcotics agents Paul and Bobby are assigned to dismantle the drug syndicate known as MID. Their investigation points to a secret hideout on Riot Island, a sprawling slum littered with abandoned ruins, apartments, hospitals, factories, and even a casino. While gathering intel, the duo receives a chilling phone call from MID; Paul hears his girlfriend Catherine screaming for help before the line goes dead, leading him to believe she’s been kidnapped. Determined to save her, Paul and Bobby storm the island’s chaotic districts, confronting MID’s forces at every turn. The game follows their gritty push through the lawless landscape as they battle to rescue Catherine and bring down the syndicate.
