Summary

Phozon delivers a surprisingly deep puzzle experience that feels like a chemistry lab gone retro. You pilot the Chemic, a tiny black atom crowned with red spikes, and must latch onto incoming Moleks of cyan, green, pink or yellow in order to copy the pattern flashing at the screen’s center. Each stage is a blueprint to replicate, with eighteen distinct formations spread across the game.

Every fourth level throws a “challenging stage” where you can launch yellow Moleks outward in four directions, adding a burst of strategy. The sole antagonist, the Atomic, wanders the playfield and can split, reform and fire deadly alpha‑ or beta‑rays that dislodge your connected Moleks. From the second world onward, catching a Power Molek lets your attached Moleks spin faster while a timer counts down, letting you retaliate against the Atomic.

The arcade proved a hit in Japan, ranking second in Game Machine’s December 1983 chart, and earned favorable notes from Play Meter after a US demo. Thanks to its later inclusion in Namco Museum Volume 3 and the Arcade Archives ports for Switch, PS4 and mobile, the quirky chemistry‑themed puzzler is finally reachable for modern players.
