Summary

P.O.W.: Prisoners of War lets you and a friend battle out of a Cuban POW camp in classic side‑scroll beat‑em‑up style. Player 1 is the blue‑clad Snake, while Player 2 takes the red‑shirted Bart, and both can roam four distinct stages – a camp, a warehouse, a jungle, and the enemy’s base – each teeming with foot soldiers, commandos, green berets and even occasional vehicles like choppers or motorcycles. The control layout is simple yet deep: an eight‑way stick plus punch, kick and jump buttons, with combos for a jump‑kick, back‑punch and head‑butt, plus two pick‑up weapons, a throwing knife and a machine gun, each changing the button functions. You can fire the gun with the kick button or conserve ammo by gun‑whipping with the punch, and the knife can be tossed or saved for later. A quirky trick lets you drop a low‑ammo gun on purpose, have an enemy snatch it, then reclaim it to refill the clip, keeping the fight fresh and strategic.

Storyline

P.O.W.: Prisoners of War (often just called P.O.W.) drops you into the tense atmosphere of the Cold War, where you play as two commandos, Snake and Bart, imprisoned in an enemy camp. Their mission is simple yet dangerous: break out of their cell, fight their way through the base, and eliminate the enemy general. The game supports one or two players, letting the duo work together as military prisoners.

After battling through a series of hostile zones, the final stage pits the commandos directly against the enemy general. Once the general is defeated, an extraction helicopter arrives, whisking Snake and Bart away in a dramatic escape sequence.
