Summary
Night Slashers stands out among early‑90s arcade beat ’em ups thanks to its horror spin and expanded combat tools. Instead of the usual street thugs, players battle zombies, vampires, were‑wolves and elementals, with each level divided into several scrolling scenes that only move forward after every foe is cleared. The three core hunters – Jake, the cyber‑armed “Psychic Cyborg” who commands lightning; Christopher, a balanced English vampire slayer wielding water and ice; and Hong Hua, a lithe Chinese mystic with fire powers – each have special “screen zapper” attacks that clear the whole screen. The uncensored Japanese arcade version sprays bright red blood, while overseas releases let you switch the gore level. Boss encounters range from a mummy‑like golem to a Grim Reaper clone, and each character unlocks a different ending.
Storyline
Night Slashers drops you into a frantic beat‑em‑up where you and your teammates battle hordes of undead and monstrous bosses. The core mission is to thwart King Zarutz’s diabolical scheme to transform Earth into a global kingdom for the dead. Each playable hero pursues the same objective, but the narrative branches at the climax. The arcade version rewards you with a unique ending tailored to the character you control, giving every playthrough its own conclusion.
