Summary
Money Puzzle Exchanger drops rows of yen‑style coins that you merge by matching values—five 1‑coins become a 5, two 5‑coins turn into a 10, and the chain continues up to 500, where a pair wipes the board. The puzzle turns aggressive fast because each combo pushes the opponent’s stack toward overflow, making multiplayer feel like a frantic cash showdown.
Behind the screen, Face’s near‑final effort was built by a team of ex‑Technōs staff, led by producer Kengo Asai, who later stamped his name on The King of Fighters ’97 and Garou. Atsuko Ishida’s bright character sketches and a soundtrack featuring Sakura Tange and Yukana give the arcade a surprisingly jazzy, anime‑flavored vibe, complete with the glorious Engrish of “Let’s fight to computer!”
Critics praised its blend of Magical Drop speed and Puzzle Bobble strategy, scoring solidly in Japan and earning a cult reputation overseas. While the Game Boy port split opinions, the Switch re‑release reminded modern players why the competitive coin‑stacking mechanic still feels oddly addictive.
