Summary

Mirai Ninja is a weird little corner of Namco’s arcade catalog that only showed up in Japanese venues when it first dropped in late 1988. What makes it stand out is that Namco produced a live‑action film of the same title at the same time, with creature designer Keita Amemiya (known for Zeiram and Kamen Rider) steering the movie’s look.
The game never left Japan and was panned commercially, ending up listed as the tenth most‑successful table cabinet in the January 1, 1989 issue of Game Machine—a modest spark in an otherwise dim run.
Decades later Hamster Corporation rescued the title for worldwide audiences in the Arcade Archives collection on Switch and PS4 in December 2021, finally giving non‑Japanese players a chance to try the bizarre platformer that mixed cyber‑ninja aesthetic with arcade flare.

Storyline

In Mirai Ninja, the player takes the role of Shiranui, a cyber‑enhanced ninja on a rescue mission. He must fight his way through a series of futuristic stages, battling hordes of rival cyborg ninjas. The ultimate goal is to save Princess Saki, who has been captured by the enemy forces.
