Summary
Metal Slug 3 dazzles with its crisp, dot‑pixel graphics and the classic run‑and‑gun feel that still feels fresh. I love how every level forks into multiple paths, each packed with its own traps, pickups, and the occasional hidden weapon upgrade. The intuitive controls let you switch between an explosive gun, a rapid‑fire cannon or even a trusty melee knife without missing a beat.
Rescuing POWs isn’t just a feel‑good moment – each freed captive grants random loot and spikes your final score, especially when you combine it with the indestructible SV‑001 tank that amps up firepower and defense. The scenery crumbles under fire, often revealing extra power‑ups. Thanks to GOG’s online mission mode, you can team up with friends across the globe for co‑op chaos, challenging the gigantic boss fights together while climbing the leaderboards.
Storyline
Metal Slug 3 follows the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force as they hunt down the remnants of General Morden’s rebellion years after his first defeat. Major Marco Rossi and Captain Tarma Roving, now joined by SPARROW operatives Sgt. Eri Kasamoto and Sgt. Fiolina Germi, discover that Morden’s forces are still active and suspect the general survived. Their investigation triggers a new alien incursion; the same extraterrestrials that once backed Morden return, forcing the two groups to ally once more.
The combined team battles through jungle bases, desert fortresses and underground labs, eventually confronting what appears to be Morden himself. The “general” is revealed to be an alien in disguise, while the real Morden is held captive aboard the alien moth‑ship Rugname. After the player’s character is abducted, the remaining heroes launch a massive rocket assault, breach the ship’s interior and destroy its core, causing the vessel to collapse.
In the final showdown the Strike Force frees Morden and their captured comrade, then fights the alien leader Rootmars in Earth’s atmosphere. With Rootmars defeated and his body left to sink, the surviving soldiers watch the celebration and the player character discards their weapon in disgust.
