Summary
Mega Twins (known as Chiki Chiki Boys in Japan and Europe) is a vibrant side‑scrolling platformer that lets you team up with a friend or tackle the action solo. Each player picks a twin—blue for harder sword attacks, red for a larger stash of magic spells—and can jump, cling to vertical walls and climb into hidden zones. The primary weapon is a magic sword, and magic bombs collected along the way clear the screen of foes, though you can only carry a few at a time.
Energy is shown by a bar that depletes on contact with enemies; losing it costs a life, while scattered chests drop coins, power‑ups and pills that restore stamina or boost weapons. The arcade stage sequence consists of nine distinct areas, starting with Earth, Heaven and the Sea, followed by a five‑part mid‑section and ending with an escape to Paradise; any of the first three levels can be chosen as a starting point. Critics gave it strong scores—mid‑80s percentages from both Computer and Video Games and Mega Action—praising its crisp graphics, varied enemy design and addictive, challenging gameplay.
Storyline
Mega Twins follows the twin sons of Alurea’s king, both about fifteen, as they set out to reclaim their homeland after a monstrous invasion. A creepy clown and his legion of beastie allies have shattered a millennium of peace, leaving the people unable to fight. Determined to restore order, the brothers embark on a quest for the legendary Dragon Blue Eyes stone, rumored to reverse the chaos. Along the way they battle a variety of monsters that now roam the once‑tranquil lands. Their ultimate goal is to use the stone’s power to bring Alurea back to its former glory.
