Summary
Magical Drop II keeps the frantic, color‑matching mania of the original while adding a larger cast and more varied play styles. A whimsical clown at the bottom of the screen snatches falling bubbles and drops them back, erasing any vertical run of three or more matching hues. When a match sparks a chain reaction or when several groups are cleared back‑to‑back, the opponent’s pile accelerates, turning a casual duel into a tense scramble. The roster of 24 characters is drawn from tarot—each named after a card, with the Strength symbol appearing twice—and each brings a distinct drop‑speed pattern that can jumble colors and disrupt a rival’s rhythm. Special and rainbow pieces add a layer of strategy, while competitive two‑player versus mode lets you pit a friend or the AI against you. The title debuted on the Neo Geo MVS arcade boards and quickly ranked among the most popular Japanese cabinets of spring‑96, earning a solid reputation among puzzle enthusiasts worldwide.
Storyline
In Magical Drop II (often called Magical Drop 2) you choose one of several tarot‑card themed characters and battle a series of computer‑controlled opponents. Each match features a different AI challenger with its own stage and personality, and the gameplay revolves around clearing falling colored drops. As you advance, the difficulty rises until you face the villainous Empress in the final encounter. Defeating the Empress concludes the tournament and reveals her motives.
