Summary

Liquid Kids puts players in the role of Hipopo, a brave hippopotamus wandering the whimsical world of Woody‑Lake to rescue his missing girlfriend Tamasun and other captive hippos. He tosses water‑filled globes that burst on contact, a mechanic that feels familiar to anyone who played Taito’s Bubble Bobble; soaked enemies can then be kicked away for extra points.

The game scrolls in all four directions across unusually large stages, packed with moving platforms, collapsing floors and other surprises. Sprinkling water on tiny seedlings makes them grow into temporary stepping stones, while cakes and other items boost the score. Getting hit restores Hipopo to his default form and costs a life.

An invisible timer triggers a “Hurry‑Up!” jingle; the screen dims and a little demon appears, urging the player forward. This adds pressure without a visible countdown.

In Japan the arcade was a hit, ranking seventeenth on Game Machine’s table‑unit list in November 1990. Critics praised the vibrant graphics and catchy soundtrack by Kazuko “Karu” Umino, awarding scores such as 81/100 from Sinclair User and 90/100 from Your Sinclair.

Storyline

Liquid Kids follows Hipopo, a brave hippopotamus, as he journeys across the tranquil land of Woody‑Lake.
