Summary
Global Champion carries the classic two‑out‑of‑three showdown familiar to fans of Street Fighter II, letting you pick from nine fighters and face three distinct bosses, each with their own special techniques. The arcade cabinets let you tackle a single‑player tournament or go head‑to‑head with a friend, swapping characters after each bout.
The title is actually the U.S. makeover of Taito’s Japanese release Kaiser Knuckle, stripped of its “super moves” and stamped with the quirky “Recycle It, Don’t Trash It!” screen. Portraits of three characters – Kazuya, Liza and Lihua – were redrawn, and the title screen received a fresh look while still echoing the original ‘K’ in the logo. These tweaks gave American arcaders a cleaner visual vibe without abandoning the core fighting‑game formula that makes the title a nostalgic staple.
Storyline
Kaiser Knuckle, known in the West as Global Champion, pits a colorful roster of fighters against each other in a high‑stakes tournament. Each combatant has a personal reason for chasing the prize money, turning the brawl into a quest for redemption, love, or discovery.
Kazuya, a Japanese karateka, hopes the cash will impress women, while Barts, an American mixed‑martial‑arts biker, needs it to fund his girlfriend Sarah’s medical operation. Taiwan’s swordswoman Lihua fights to find her missing parents, and Chinese detective Wulong seeks the money to settle a dangerous debt. Brazil’s jungle girl Liza wants a new carnival costume, and break‑dancer Boggy aims to boost his dancing career. Ninja Gekkou craves the funds to learn his master’s secret techniques, boxer Jim McCoy dreams of a heavyweight title shot, and German mutant Marco hopes the prize will finance research to become human again. Russian judoka Gonzales searches for his fiancée Tanya, Aztec warrior Azteca strives to recover lost memories, and the mysterious General, the titular Kaiser Knuckle, commands the space‑station tournament for reasons unknown.
