Summary
Donkey Kong 3 flips the classic platform formula into an arcade shoot‑'em‑up, handing you control of Stanley, an exterminator stationed beneath a leafy greenhouse. The ape dangles from vines at the screen’s center while a parade of insects—buzzbees, queen Beespies, inchworms, beetles and butterflies—dart about, trying to snatch the flowers below. Stanley moves across three moving platforms, spraying bug spray upward to push Kong higher or to obliterate the pests. A Super Sprayer drops from the vines at the start of each life, granting a brief burst that rockets Kong skyward for faster level clearance. Clearing a stage means either forcing the ape off the screen or eradicating all the insects; lost flowers shave points from the end‑of‑round bonus. The game awards an extra life at 50,000 points before slipping into a “survival of the fittest” mode that cycles the three environments indefinitely, keeping the action relentless and oddly satisfying for arcade fans.
Storyline
Donkey Kong 3 drops you into Stanley’s greenhouse, where the mischievous ape has crashed onto the rafters and is provoking swarms of insects. The critters emerge from hidden nests and threaten to eat the five precious flowers Stanley is trying to protect. Armed with a handheld sprayer, Stanley must spray bug spray at both the bugs and Donkey Kong himself, clearing each screen of insects. If the ape manages to consume all five flowers, the level ends in failure, so the player constantly chases him away while exterminating the buzzing enemies. Each stage repeats this pattern, with the greenhouse layout changing and new bug types appearing, keeping the action fast‑paced and focused on precise shooting.
