Summary
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs pulls you into a neon‑lit world where street‑fighters battle mutated reptiles and thugs. The side‑scrolling beat‑'em‑up lets you pick one of four heroes—Jack (balanced), Hannah (skill), Mustapha (speed) and Mess (power). Each character has two special moves; one of them will drain your health on contact, and teaming up with other players unlocks a devastating group attack. Dinosaur foes drift through the stages as neutral troublemakers, sometimes attacking both you and the enemies. Along the way you can snatch firearms, toss rocks or explosives, and swing clubs, mixing ranged firepower with classic melee blows. When a player is downed, a villain leans in for a point‑of‑view taunt—'Eat lead, baby!'—and gives a 20‑second window before the gun fires. The arcade proved a hit in Japan, ranking among the top machines in June 1993 and landing ninth in RePlay’s popularity list.
Storyline
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs (the arcade game) opens in the 26th century, long after the 20th‑century world collapsed into the flooded metropolis known as the City in the Sea and its surrounding jungle. A ruthless gang called the Black Marketeers has been hunting dinosaurs for an unknown purpose, driving the creatures into violent attacks on villages.
Four unlikely heroes band together: mechanic‑shaman Jack Tenrec, diplomat‑explorer Hannah Dundee, engineer Mustapha Cairo, and the mysterious Mess O'Bradovich. Their quest takes them from the rooftop showdown with Vice Terhune, through swamp forests to defeat the Butcher, across the Desert of Death to beat Hogg, and back to Jack’s garage to crush Slice’s gang. They rescue a burning village, confront Morgan – who mutates into the dinosaur‑like Morgue – and battle the tentacled hybrid Tyrog before learning that Dr. Simon Fessenden is behind a serum that creates monstrous lifeforms.
The heroes storm Fessenden’s underground hideout, survive his three‑headed final form, and escape as the lab self‑destructs. In the end, Jack and Hannah are saved by their friends, and all four return home after stopping the Black Marketeers’ deadly scheme.
