Summary
Beast Busters still feels wild after all these years, not just because it introduced three‑player light‑gun chaos but because the cabinet’s guns actually looked and felt like real machine guns. The three mercenaries you can pick from let a group of friends stand side‑by‑side as the city erupts in a relentless cascade of undead.
The game throws you down seven fast‑paced rail shooter sections, each punctuated by bizarre boss encounters—a zombie punk that mutates into a feral dog, a jeep that suddenly animates, and other out‑of‑left‑field creatures. Power‑ups ranging from rockets to health packs pop up just in time to keep the mayhem manageable, and the mounted guns add that tactile thrill you can only get in the arcade.
Ports later landed on the Amiga and Atari ST, proving that the frantic, cooperative shoot‑'em‑up could still light up home screens long after the arcade lights dimmed.
Storyline
In Beast Busters, set in the vague year 199X, a bizarre outbreak turns dead people—referred to as Beasts—into violent revenants that overrun a city. The mayor, desperate to stop the chaos, promises a huge reward to anyone who can uncover the cause and contain the menace. Answering the call, three heavily armed bounty hunters—Johnny Justice, Paul Patriot, and Sammy Stately—storm the Beast‑infested streets. Their mission is to track down the source of the resurrection, eliminate the rampaging Beasts, and claim the promised bounty. The game’s narrative follows their gritty, gun‑filled push through a city turned nightmare, blending sci‑fi horror with arcade action.
