Summary
Battle Garegga drops you into a diesel‑punk 1940s sky where the twin brothers Brian and Jason pilot a squad of four customizable aircraft. The game’s art leans toward muted, realistic bullet hues, which hide incoming fire among the smoke and debris—a design choice that makes every dodge feel earned. A secret code even lets you pilot the four pilots from the older shooter Mahou Daisakusen.
Collecting green Options expands your firepower, and you can switch among five preset formations—or discover hidden ones by dropping the right number of power‑ups before the next pick‑up appears. Bombs come in two sizes; small bomb tokens appear after ground kills while accumulating enough fills a larger, more powerful bomb slot. Medals dropped by the infamous "popcorn" enemies increase in value with each successive collect, but lose points if they fall off the bottom.
What truly sets Battle Garegga apart is its dynamic rank system: firing, powering up, or grabbing items silently hikes the difficulty, while dying drops the rank dramatically. Skilled players learn to manage this by intentionally shedding lives and staying low on power late‑game. The result is a high‑skill loop that rewards precise, restrained play over reckless blasting.
Storyline
Battle Garegga follows the saga of Mathew Wayne, a mechanical prodigy from a tiny country town, whose talent was inherited by his sons, Brian and Jason. After inheriting their father's automobile factory, the brothers quickly earned a reputation for engineering excellence across the nation.
The powerful Federation later approached the Wayne brothers with a lucrative contract to produce military vehicles, which they accepted and used to create weapons unmatched in quality.
Soon the Federation's massive air fleet darkened the skies, laying waste to towns and cities—including the brothers' own hometown—while wielding the very machines the Waynes had built.
Determined to stop the Federation's ruthless domination, Brian and Jason commandeer experimental aircraft never submitted to the regime and join forces with the four heroes from Mahou Daisakusen to strike back.
