Summary

Armored Warriors (known in Japan as Powered Gear) is a side‑scrolling beat ’em up that lets up to three players pilot giant mechs through hand‑drawn, futuristic stages. You pick one of four pilots, each with a distinct robot, and mash the joystick and buttons to smash enemy machines while parts of their armor break off. Those salvaged limbs, treads or weapons can be attached to your own suit, letting you swap arms, legs or handheld gear on the fly for fresh attacks. Pressing several buttons together triggers a "Team‑up Change"—a screen‑shaking combo that costs a little of your health but can clear crowds in an instant. The game is structured around seven mission‑like levels, each with its own time limit, ammo count and a boss at the end, giving plenty of replay value as you experiment with different load‑outs. Capcom’s high‑polish mecha designs were later recycled for the fighting title Cyberbots, and the arcade cabinet was a hit in Japan, ranking among the top table units in late‑1994.

Storyline

Armored Warriors (Arcade) is set in the year 2281, when the United Earth Government finally signs a cease‑fire with the Principalities of Raia, ending a fifty‑year conflict. One year later, Earth’s 18th scouting party discovers that the Raian capital, Melkide, has fallen to a mysterious, unknown force. The official mission is to send an Earth army to retake the city and rescue its citizens. In reality, the operation hides a darker goal: to wipe out the enigmatic enemy and bring Raia under Earth’s control. As players battle through the stages, they gradually uncover the hidden motives behind the Earth‑Raia war.
