Summary
The arcade game Aliens drops you and a friend into the gutted corridors of LV‑426’s abandoned outpost, where you’re armed as Ellen Ripley or another marine and must blast wave after wave of xenomorphs. The core of the action is a side‑scrolling shooter, but certain passages shift the view to a third‑person rail‑shoot, forcing you to fire forwards, backwards and even into the screen as enemies charge from all angles. Besides the iconic Smart‑gun you can snag a flamethrower, missile or grenade launchers, and even the hefty Caterpillar P‑5000 for a brief burst of firepower. Levels end in heavyweight bosses, the climax being a showdown with the Alien Queen while piloting a power exoskeleton loader. Two‑player co‑op is seamless, letting you rescue survivors together before the colony finally collapses under the alien onslaught.
Storyline
In the arcade game *Aliens* (often just called Aliens), the Weyland‑Yutani Corporation loses contact with its mining outpost, Hadley's Hope, on LV‑426 Acheron. Colonial Marine troops aboard the USS Sulaco are dispatched to investigate, only to discover the colony overrun by a parasitic alien life form that has either exterminated the crew or turned them into hosts for the next generation of creatures. Players assume the role of Ellen Ripley or Corporal Hicks, battling waves of Xenomorphs throughout the facility. The climax pits the marine against the Alien Queen, and the game offers two possible victories: open the airlock as in the 1986 film, or keep fighting until the Queen finally bursts apart.
