Summary

Akai Katana drops you into a stylized Taisho‑era world where ancient Blood Swords fuel both dread and hope. Cave’s signature bullet‑hell frenzy arrives in a rare horizontal layout, letting me dodge swarms of enemy fire across a crisp 16:9 HD screen—something the studio never showed on consoles before.

The rebels pilot sleek warplanes equipped with the cursed swords, which demand a human sacrifice for each lethal blast, creating a tense risk‑reward loop that feels fresh even after dozens of stages.

An enhanced EXA Label edition hit the exA‑Arcadia boards in 2022, polishing the visuals and extending the chaos for modern cabinets. It’s the perfect mash‑up of classic arcade intensity and a surprising narrative backdrop that keeps you hooked on every frantic screen.

Storyline

Set in a parallel world that mirrors Japan’s Taishō era, the arcade shooter Akai Katana (often just called Akai Katana) centers on the discovery of the Blood Swords. These weapons unleash massive destruction only after a human sacrifice, and the empire has wielded them to subjugate neighboring lands.

The endless bloodshed forces several swordsmen to question their loyalty. A small rebel group, equipped with new fighter planes and upgraded Blood Swords, rises to challenge the tyrannical regime and fight for a freer future.
