Summary

Aero Fighters Special—known as Sonic Wings Limited in its early arcade run—is built on the Sony ZN‑1 JAMMA board, a hardware platform that kept the fast‑paced vertical shooter feel intact when Sonic Wings Special made the jump to cabinets.

Players choose from six distinct teams, twelve pilots and an equal number of unique fighters, giving plenty of combos to experiment with.

Although the cartridge holds ten stages, only seven appear in any single run; the routes after Stage 4 and Stage 6 shift according to how well you play, delivering one of three possible Stage 7 locations—Fight in Orbit, Another Dimension, or Mars—and swapping the final boss accordingly.

The game rewards mastery with multiple endings: a boss‑specific loss cutscene if a final foe escapes, a character‑focused happy ending when you triumph, and stage‑related conclusions for different paths.

Collectibles also grow in value the longer they linger onscreen, ticking up through 100, 200, 500, 1 000, 2 000, 4 000 and maxing out at 10 000 points, encouraging both precision and timing.
